Twitter Challenge Reflections! #SumItSunday Pt. 2


 

Overall this week was one of my favorites! I was able to participate and engage in multiple challenges, and the best challenge of them all was on Twitter. Twitter has become the social media app I constantly use, and I love the direction that my personal Twitter is evolving with a mix of my doctoral identity and leadership educator identity while also sharing the highs and lows of my experience. I discuss the joys of teaching, presenting, and doing research with outstanding faculty; while sharing updates about my life and the specific day I might have had, whether good or bad. I want to continue to be authentic when engaging in higher education. I want individuals to always feel comfortable speaking with me and knowing that I, too, am human, regardless of the level of education I might hold or even positions later on in my career. In this week's Twitter challenge, I was able to be funny with my Gif choices while also profoundly thinking about what I wanted to share for the challenge. Many of the hashtags were very fitting for the course, and I was happy to display that with others in the class and those who are not taking EME6414 this summer but are noticing the positive engagement that the course is having! Seeing how learning happens in various places, especially on social media, has been fantastic! I'm thankful to have joined in on this challenge, as I started thinking of ideas for how a similar structure or model could be created to engage with undergraduate students in either one of the asynchronous leadership courses I enjoy teaching. I liked the challenge because I could see what my peers came up with. I plan to follow up regarding some of our discussions and conversations because they were so good!     You did it! I was on this challenge all week and had every goal to complete it. But hosting company for the weekend I forgot to tweet Saturday and thought it woul dbe disingenuos to post it Sunday andddd the reflection. But, I almost got there!! #Almost

    Congrats on completing the challenge and I am always here for the GIF game!

      Thank you so much! I understand this so much about hosting company, I am glad you were able to have that time with them. We all deserve the opportunity to spend with family, friends, and loved ones to get that recharge! There is always the next challenge!

  I remember the first time I learned about Slack; it was my first year as a Graduate Supervisor in Residential Life at Indiana University. I worked alongside my direct supervisor in co-supervising an undergraduate staff of nine resident assistants (RA's). "New Look, Who Dis" Blog Makeover

What a perfect challenge to engage in! It is time for a CHANGE. Change is good. Change is scary. Change is important. I was curious to know how I wanted my blogger site to look when we were tasked with creating our blogger account. I went with something that felt "safe" or comfortable to my liking. I wanted to represent myself, given the headshot. I added something representing my fraternity, and then the overall color with the orange sunset vibe felt like something I would enjoy. I went with some standard or default choices regarding my fonts, backgrounds, and gadgets. The options were endless; I was correct! My blogger design worked for me, and I did not feel like it was something I would grow to hate or dislike. Due to the blog makeover challenge, I am open to embracing this new change! Keeping up With Technology—Digital Natives vs. Digital Immigrants

       Before this week's readings, I only partially thought about generational differences when it comes to technology. Yes, I know there have been distinct differences between how I grew up as a child compared to my parents and now my nieces and nephew with using technology. I did not always have the latest technology growing up, but when I did, it felt like I "had" to have it to stay connected to what my peers were experiencing. My nieces and nephew are now growing up with all types of technology (tablets, school laptops, YouTube, TikTok, etc.) because it is so prevalent in their experiences and upbringing. While reflecting on the readings, the part that shocked me the most would have to be the terms digital natives and digital immigrants (Prensky, 2001). I knew that these specific "identities" regarding technology usage existed, but I did not know there was a term that classified it all together until the Prensky (2001) article.
