Pinterest? What in the Pinterest? Another week and another addition to the digital and social media family, which I have enjoyed.
Pinterest is "a visual discovery engine for finding ideas like recipes, home and style inspiration, and more" (Pinterest.com, nd.).
This week I got to revisit a platform I forgot about, Pinterest. I used Pinterest minimally and not to its fullest capacity. I heard of Pinterest through some friends who relied on Pinterest for EVERYTHING. Using Pinterest to brainstorm birthday party themes, graduation photo shoot suggestions, apartment decoration ideas, and even tattoo ideas. So I started to do the same as I prepared for my first tattoo or graduation photos for graduating undergrad, but after using it for what I needed, I never looked back. I did not see the value in continuously using Pinterest, as if it takes too much time to put things together and be creative about the images you select.
Additionally, when I think about the various social and digital media sites I engage in, I choose ones with a bit more interaction in comments and sharing of posts. While Pinterest is a new way for us to participate in the course, I plan to familiarize myself with its purpose to see how I can gain something from using Pinterest. Each social and digital media site we are using has its culture created and maintained by its users. Pinterest is a whole new cultural experience that I am learning to adapt to and figuring out how I can gain valuable skills and knowledge. I am learning to allow the images I select to speak far greater than words ever could. I hope to evolve and change my perception of Pinterest. I can see the potential; time to put the potential/possibility into action.
I have a couple of questions below if you are interested! Let me know your thoughts.
- Do you agree that "a picture is worth a thousand words"? Why or why not?
- What are your thoughts on Pinterest? Is it something that you use daily? If so, why?
I completely agree that a picture can convey more than a thousand words. Sometimes an image captures a moment so perfectly that words cannot do it justice. That's why I make sure to capture every moment with my daughters. I never know when they will grow up and I will be left with only memories.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I used to have a Pinterest account but forgot about it. I mainly used it when I was a teacher and my pins were mostly recipes and classroom resources. Nowadays, I barely have time to keep up with social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, let alone use Pinterest regularly.
